The role is based at the clients’ principal residence, outside of London and will involve travel as required. The role comes with a fully expensed 3-bed cottage not far from the estate; partners and pets are welcome.

Duties: 

  • The complete care of the Principal’s wardrobe: maintaining the order of the wardrobe, drawers, luggage, dressing room and storage areas.
  • Pressing of items worn, cleaning of shoes, brushing of hats and bags and general maintenance of accessories.
  • Subject to the Principal’s approval, items should be taken to the dry cleaner, and a detailed log should be kept.
  • Hand washing and ironing of the Principal’s personal washing.
  • Packing and unpacking of clothes for travel, including the maintaining of a detailed travel log.
  • To look after female house guests’ personal hand washing/pressing and bedroom and bathroom as required.
  • Minor repairs to be dealt with by the Lady’s Maid. Major repairs should be signalled to the Principal before decisions are made.
  • Logging of outfits worn to repeat events such as Royal Ascot, dinner parties at annual shoots etc.
  • The care and cleaning of the Main Bedroom Suite.
  • Keeping in order the dressing table, stock and supply of cosmetics and toiletries.
  • Ensuring the bed linen and towels are changed as required, laundering and pressing the sheets and towels.
  • Personal shopping for the Principal as instructed.
  • To prepare bedrooms in the evening, i.e., close curtains, turn down beds etc.
  • Occasional cooking.
  • Travelling with the Principal as required.

These notes are intended to be used as a general guide. Certain circumstances will require that working methods be adjusted. It is necessary to ensure that all the staff are aware of what is happening in the house so they can adapt their work accordingly.

During the Housekeeper’s absence, the Lady’s Maid needs to be able to carry out some of the duties normally carried out by her. She should speak to the Head Butler or to the Principal if in doubt.
