UMBRA ACADEMY
A Business of Impact
Since the launch of UMBRA in 2015, we have been on a mission to make Security and a Secure Lifestyle accessible to those who need it the most.
We have kickstarted initiatives to broaden the understanding of the Security Industry for those that need to use it, and those interested in working within it. When clients work with us they know that not only do they access the best people, advice and services to keep them safe today and tomorrow, but that their work with us also supports a range of initiatives that we proudly champion.
What we have already achieved under our 4 Academy Pillars so far:
Our Resource Mission – “1 Billion Secure”
We are on a mission to make sure our Secure Lifestyle resources and training gets into the hands of those that need it the most, and to make Security and feeling safe accessible to all. We are developing resources for free as downloadable toolkits, and are currently looking for partners and sponsors to enable us to reach an even wider audience, with a bold goal of impacting 1 billion global citizens.
Armed Forces and Veteran Support
We are a Silver Armed Forces Covenant business and help those from UK and overseas armed forces and blue-light service backgrounds transition to the private sector on a 1-2-1 basis daily. We assist with their private client (and wider) career guidance and transition and we welcome contact from anyone looking for help in this respect.
Our support includes highlighting networking opportunities and personal brand enhancement, including CV and LinkedIn profile optimisation, as well as mentoring for the short to long/ongoing term where required. We are committed to diversity, inclusivity, and equity for all those in the Armed Forces, as seen by our CEO Kate Bright’s role within the British Army Gender Advisory Committee.
Sports to Security
The business was founded on the basis that the values and experience within professional sport can transition brilliantly to the Private Security Industry. As a result, we initiated the creation of supported funding and education pathways for ex-professional sportspeople to enter the UK Security Industry.
Alongside the work of UK Premiership clubs such as Harlequins Women, Saracens Foundation, and the Welsh Rugby Players Association, our aim is to drive this initiative globally with international partners in business, security, and sport. We have opened our professional networks to ex-elite athletes who have successfully made this transition into the industry and who now provide ongoing private client protection and support with wider public safety.
The Switch The Play Foundation is our key partner in helping to develop the wider support needed for those transitioning from sport and who bring huge value to the private sector more broadly, and we are proud to support their work.
Supporting the Next Generation
We believe in the power of mentorship, support and guidance to those who would not otherwise work with Private Clients or have exposure to the Boardroom. To that end we launched our own Shadow Board in 2023, composed of a broad selection of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
Alongside this we will continue to champion the skills needed for the ‘Right Hand Role’, UMBRA supports our clients in finding and increasing the opportunities for young people and their future careers working with our Clients.
Our Secure Lifestyle Training benefits the Coach Core Apprenticeship Scheme. For each physical or digital safety course we deliver to our clients and their next generation, we gift the same to a Coach Core Apprentice. These are young leaders of tomorrow who are given the tools of sports management to encourage their professional development. This partnership underlines our commitment to the power of Social Mobility through sport.
